Sekitoji is a profound Tendai sect temple situated at the foot of Mt. Nunobiki in Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture. As its name suggests, the temple grounds are characterized by an extraordinary collection of stone pagodas. The stone triple pagoda (Sanju-no-to) and various other stone structures form a unique and striking landscape. Surrounded by lush greenery, the sight of neatly arranged stone Buddhas and pagodas creates an atmosphere of profound tranquility and historical weight.

Please note that opening hours may vary by season, so visiting during midday is generally recommended.
The primary way to experience Sekitoji is through a contemplative stroll among the stone Buddhas and pagodas. You can enjoy a moment of zen while observing the garden pond or offering prayers at the main hall. For those wishing to keep a spiritual memento of their visit, 'Goshuin' (temple stamps/calligraphy) are available for 500 yen.
Located in the nature-rich Higashiomi area, the temple is nestled near the scenic Mt. Nunobiki. The most common way to reach the temple is by taking a train (JR or Ohmi Railway) to a nearby station, followed by a bus or a walk through the local scenery.
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, as the temple grounds include stone steps and unpaved paths. Please carry cash (Japanese Yen) for admission fees (400 yen for adults, 100 yen for children) and Goshuin (500 yen). While photography is permitted, please respect the sacred atmosphere and follow local etiquette. English language support is limited, so please maintain a quiet and respectful demeanor to preserve the peaceful environment. For those with mobility concerns, please be aware that the presence of stairs and uneven terrain may limit accessibility for wheelchairs.
