Sakurayama Jinja is a historic Shinto shrine located in the heart of Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, adjacent to the Morioka Castle Site Park. The shrine was completed in 1865 (Keio 1) and is said to be one of the first Shokonsha of its kind in Japan. The legendary 'Eboshi Rock' is said to have appeared during the era of Toshi Nao, the 27th lord of the Nanbu clan, during the construction of Morioka Castle. This giant stone has been cherished as a 'treasure stone,' and rituals have been performed here for centuries to pray for peace and protection against disasters and plagues.
