The history of this area dates back to the Sengoku (Warring States) period, when the land was first reclaimed. Today, the landscape and traditional farming methods are maintained by local residents, preservation societies, and the Sakamoto Agricultural Association. The greatest attraction is the layered, cascading view of the rice terraces. The unique stone-walled structures set this location apart from other terraced fields in Japan. A standout event is the 'Tanada Akari in Sakamoto' held around November, where approximately 3,500 LED lights illuminate the fields, transforming the terraces into a mystical, glowing landscape.
