Sakaki Chikuma River Rose Park is a breathtaking destination located along the banks of the Chikuma River in Sakaki Town, Nagano Prefecture. The park is a paradise for rose enthusiasts, featuring an impressive collection of over 2,300 rose bushes spanning 330 different varieties. Because of its unique riverside location, visitors can enjoy a harmonious blend of vibrant floral colors and the tranquil scenery of the flowing Chikuma River, the wide sky, and the surrounding mountain ranges.
The park provides a space that harmonizes with the local natural environment through the careful cultivation of roses and the maintenance of beautiful landscapes. The annual "Rose Festival," held around the peak blooming season in late May, has become a significant local event that symbolizes the region. The diversity of rose species combined with the natural beauty of the Chikuma River offers a unique cultural and aesthetic value that is specific to this area.

The greatest attraction is the overwhelming spectacle of roses in full bloom. With over 330 varieties, the park presents a different facial expression depending on the season and time of year. The location, where the sweet scent of roses meets the gentle flow of the Chikuma River, is a truly captivating element for all visitors. During the peak season, the entire park is blanketed in a kaleidoscope of colors, creating an unforgettable landscape.
The peak season for roses is typically from late May to mid-June, coinciding with the annual Rose Festival when the most varieties are in bloom. The park also displays a different charm from late September to mid-October. For the most beautiful photography and scenery, we recommend visiting during the soft light of early morning or late afternoon, when the colors of the roses and the river are most enchanting.
During the Rose Festival, visitors may enjoy various activities such as the sale of rose seedlings and local specialty products. In the past, the park has also hosted lectures by rose sommeliers and workshops on rose cultivation. The spacious grounds are perfect for a relaxing stroll among the flowers. During special event periods, additional attractions like mini zoos or local markets may also be organized.
Situated on the banks of the Chikuma River, the park is surrounded by rich, natural landscapes. It is relatively easy to access, located within walking distance from Techno-Sakaki Station on the Shinano Railway. The surrounding area offers a peaceful atmosphere where you can fully enjoy the harmony between nature and the local scenery of Nagano.
As the park covers a wide area, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Casual, relaxed clothing is perfect for a stroll through the fragrant rose gardens. If you are driving, please note that a small cooperation fee (approximately 500 yen) may be required for parking. When taking photos, please enjoy the scenery while being careful not to touch or damage the delicate flowers and plants.
