The development of Nishi-Zao Park progressed significantly during the late Showa era. The park was planned to utilize the natural beauty of the Zao mountain range as a central hub for regional recreation. Since its establishment, the park has undergone phased improvements, including the addition of specialized play equipment, camping facilities, and Japanese-style gardens, all while maintaining a policy of balancing nature conservation with public recreation.
The park is divided into several areas that combine natural landscapes with various activities.
