Ryugukutsu is a breathtaking sea cave located in the southern part of the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture, offering a unique opportunity to witness the raw beauty of natural geological formations. This site was created millions of years ago when submarine volcanic materials were uplifted due to the collision between the Izu block and the main island of Honshu. The most striking feature is the large "skylight" created by a collapsed section of the cave ceiling. The origins of this site are tied to the dynamic geological movements of the Earth. Millions of years ago, during the collision of the Izu block and Honshu, volcanic materials from the seabed were pushed upward to form land. Over time, the weaker parts of these uplifted layers were eroded by powerful waves, carving out the sea cave. Eventually, further erosion caused a portion of the ceiling to collapse, resulting in the unique skylight seen today.
