Ogome Bairin is a renowned plum blossom destination located in Ogome Town, Iruma District, Saitama Prefecture. Recognized as one of the three great plum groves in the Kanto region, the site spans approximately 2 hectares and is densely planted with numerous plum trees. The area attracts many visitors every year during the "Plum Festival" held from mid-February to mid-end of March.
This region has a long-standing history of prosperous plum production. The tradition of planting plum trees in this area dates back many generations, and this historical legacy continues to shape the current landscape of the grove. The plum blossoms are not just a seasonal sight but a cherished part of the local culture and heritage.
The grove features a diverse variety of plum trees, including Shiro Kaga, Beni Ume, and Ogome No Ume. The most striking feature is the beautiful scenery created by these varieties, especially the majestic old trees that have stood for many years. During the Plum Festival, local events and festivities often take place, allowing visitors to feel the deep-rooted traditions of the community.
The best time to visit is during the Plum Festival from mid-February to mid-March, when the blossoms are at their peak. Visiting during daylight hours allows you to observe the intricate details of the flower colors and shapes. Additionally, on certain weekends and holidays during the festival, special events such as the operation of a Mini SL (steam locomotive) are scheduled, adding extra excitement to your visit.
Visitors can enjoy peaceful walks through nature around the plum grove. Depending on the season, there are often events that allow you to experience local culture firsthand. The area is also suitable for light hiking, as there are trails that allow you to explore the surrounding natural environment.
The area is dotted with nature-rich parks and hiking-friendly spots. For example, nearby Godaison Tsutsuji Park offers beautiful azalea views from April to May, while the Yamabuki no Sato Historical Park allows you to enjoy the blooming yellow flowers of the Yamabuki plant depending on the season. You can easily create a travel route that combines these natural attractions.
Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for exploring the paths. Since the grove is a natural environment, please prepare clothing suitable for the weather and season.
