Oosa Beach is a stunning coastline located in Kaiyo Town, Tokushima Prefecture. It has been honored with the 'Special Selection' in the Ministry of the Environment's '100 Best Water Bathing Beaches in Japan,' a testament to its exceptionally high-quality seawater. The beach features a wide, gently curving sandy shore, where the sea transitions through a breathtaking gradient of colors from emerald green to deep blue. The open landscape allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the vastness of nature.
This region is part of the famous 'Yasaka Hachihama' (Eight Yasaka Beaches), a collection of eight scenic beaches and eight hills. At the western end of the sandy shore, the view of Hokashima—an island adorned with pine and Japanese black bayberry trees—provides a classic and culturally rich coastal landscape that has been cherished for generations.
The greatest attraction is the mesmerizing color of the ocean, shifting from emerald green to a brilliant blue, paired with the expansive sandy beach. Under a clear sky, the harmony of the blue heavens and the calm sea creates a spectacular visual experience. For your comfort, wooden pergolas (rest areas) are installed along the shore, allowing you to relax and enjoy the sea breeze while gazing at the horizon.
The swimming season typically runs from mid-July to late August. It is highly recommended to visit during the daytime when the sunlight hits the water most directly, making the colors of the sea appear most vibrant. Please note that if any weather warnings or heavy rain alerts are issued, swimming may be prohibited for safety; always check the local weather reports before your visit.
Oosa Beach is an ideal location for swimming and enjoying the water. However, to protect the natural environment and ensure safety, certain activities are strictly prohibited. This includes camping, fireworks, barbecues, and all forms of marine sports (such as bodyboarding, surfing, yachting, and jet skiing). Please respect these rules to preserve the pristine nature of the beach.
The surrounding coastline is rich in natural beauty. The southern part of Kaiyo Town offers various other spots for swimming and enjoying harmonious coastal scenery. The beach is easily accessible via the JR Mugi Line, located just a short walk from Sabase Station.
When visiting, please bring swimwear, sandals, and a hat for sun protection. The facility is equipped with changing rooms, showers, and restrooms. Please note that there are no coin lockers or luggage storage services available, so please manage your valuables and belongings carefully. If you are accompanied by pets, they must be kept on a leash, and you are responsible for cleaning up after them to maintain the environment. As a reminder, camping, fireworks, barbecues, and marine sports are not allowed.
