Located in Sanbonki, Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, "Himawari no Oka" (Sunflower Hill) is a vast natural area that offers a spectacular experience. The most striking feature is the immense landscape of rapeseed flowers (canola) spreading across 6 hectares. During the spring season, approximately 2 million flowers bloom, creating an iconic scenery that symbolizes the region.
The region has a long history of celebrating seasonal floral blooms. In particular, the "Rapeseed Flower Festival" held during the peak blooming season is a well-established event that passes the local natural beauty and culture down to future generations. The area also serves as a vital community hub, where special temporary shops are set up, allowing local residents and tourists to interact and share the region's heritage.

The highlight of this destination is the endless sea of yellow that stretches to the horizon. The scale of 2 million rapeseed flowers creates a unique view that can only be experienced here. During the festival period, special stalls are established within the venue, offering a variety of local specialties and regional products for visitors to enjoy.
The best time to visit is between March and April, coinciding with the peak blooming period of the rapeseed flowers. During this time, the Rapeseed Flower Festival is in full swing, and the temporary shops are highly active. We recommend visiting during the bright daylight hours, as the sunlight enhances the vivid yellow hues of the flowers, making the colors appear even more intense and beautiful.

During the festival, you can explore the special market stalls that open within the venue. Here, you can encounter various local products and taste the unique flavors of the region. It is a wonderful opportunity to feel the local culture and products while surrounded by the peaceful, natural environment.
The area around Osaki City is dotted with various spots to enjoy nature and history. For instance, the Naruko, Osaki, and Kurihara areas feature many facilities for enjoying hot springs (onsen) and scenic landscapes. You can easily incorporate historical temples, shrines, and other seasonal flower parks into your travel itinerary for a complete sightseeing route.

Since you will be moving through a vast outdoor area, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please prepare clothing suitable for the spring weather and outdoor conditions.
