Oku-Oi Lake Station is a station on the Oigawa Railway Ikawa Line, located in Kawanehon Town, Shizuoka Prefecture. It was relocated to its current position following the construction of the Nagashima Dam in 1990. Situated at an altitude of 490m on the tip of a peninsula overlooking Lake Sessa (a reservoir formed by the Nagashima Dam), the station offers a unique landscape where the platform appears to float above the water. Surrounded by the massive 'Rainbow Bridges,' the station feels like a secluded island in the mountains, earning it the reputation of a 'hidden station' (hikyo-eki). Because there is very little artificial light in the area, special 'Starry Sky Trains' are occasionally operated to allow visitors to enjoy the breathtaking celestial views.
The station was moved to its current location to avoid being submerged by the construction of the dam. It was selected as one of the 'Top 100 Stations in Central Japan' in 2001, symbolizing Japan's rich railway culture. Its unique scenery has earned it international acclaim, including a Cool Japan Award in 2019. The station is affectionately known as the 'Oku-Oi Love Lock Station.' This name comes from the 'Love Lock Box' installed on the platform, where visitors can participate in the tradition of locking a key to symbolize their eternal love. In the past, the station even hosted special wedding events, cementing its history as a romantic destination deeply connected to the local natural environment.

The greatest draw is the open-air platform overlooking the vast dam lake. The view of the two massive steel bridges (Rainbow Bridges) flanking the station and the calm surface of the lake attracts railway enthusiasts and photographers alike. On the platform, you can also find the 'Happy Happy Bell,' a bell believed to bring happiness. Additionally, the 'Love Lock Box' provides a romantic way for couples to create lasting memories. For those seeking a view, the nearby Lake Cottage Oku-Oi offers a rest area on the 1st floor and an observation deck on the 2nd floor to enjoy the surrounding scenery.
The scenery is beautiful in any season, but the contrast between the blue of the lake and the lush greenery is particularly striking during the fresh green season of spring and early summer. For a truly magical experience, look out for the 'Starry Sky Train' services, which allow you to experience the railway under a canopy of stars in an environment free from light pollution. Please note that since the area is extremely dark at night, it is essential to check the train schedules in advance for any special night services.

Visitors can enjoy walking and hiking through the rich natural surroundings. The Oigawa Railway offers hiking routes leading from this station toward Sessa-kyo Onsen. A unique cultural activity is using the special 'Love Lock' at the station's box to pledge your love with a partner. You can also take a break at facilities like Lake Cottage Oku-Oi to relax in the heart of nature.
The area around the station is dotted with natural landmarks such as Mt. Tenguishi. A short walk up from the station leads to Lake Cottage Oku-Oi, perfect for resting and viewing the landscape. Regarding access, while parking is available along Prefectural Road 388, please be aware that it requires a 15 to 20-minute walk on a mountain path to reach the station from the parking area, so please plan your movement accordingly.

As the station is located in a mountainous, natural area, comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing are essential. Since the walk from the parking lot involves stairs and mountain paths, sneakers are highly recommended. Please ensure you have cash ready for your travel on the Oigawa Railway. While photography is permitted, please be considerate of other passengers. Additionally, please check the latest information before visiting, as facilities like Lake Cottage Oku-Oi may be closed during the winter season.
