Oku Iya Double Kazurabashi is a quintessential landmark of the remote Oku Iya region in Tokishima Prefecture. This site features two unique suspension bridges constructed from woven plant vines (kazura). Known as the 'Otoko-bashi' (Male Bridge) and 'Me-bashi' (Female Bridge), they are collectively called 'Meoto Bashi' (Married Couple Bridges). Surrounded by deep forests and crystal-clear streams, the area offers an overwhelming sense of natural beauty and silence, completely disconnected from the bustle of daily life. The site also includes a well-maintained campsite, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the breath of nature.

History and Cultural Background

This location is steeped in historical legend. It is said that the Taira clan constructed these bridges to access the 'Heike no Baba' at Mount Tsurugi. This blend of human history and natural coexistence gives the site a profound depth beyond just being a scenic spot. Main Highlights

The greatest thrill is walking across the two swaying vine bridges. The sensation of the bridge moving under your feet while looking down at the beautiful mountain stream below is an unforgettable experience. While the historical 'Yaen' mechanism (a rope-pulling system used to cross the stream) is no longer in use, the surrounding lush greenery and the sound of the flowing water continue to captivate all who visit.
