Oirase Stream is a stunning mountain stream located in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture, stretching from the eastern shore of Lake Towada to Yakeyama. Designated as a National Special Scenic Spot and a Natural Monument, the landscape is a living work of art created by nature itself. Visitors can experience the raw vitality of the environment through crystal-clear waters, numerous waterfalls, and diverse moss covering rocks and fallen trees. While you can tour the various points by bus or car, walking the nature trails allows for a much deeper connection with the breath of the forest.
This area has been celebrated for its natural sculptural beauty since ancient times. In 1928, the area along with Lake Towada was designated as a Scenic Spot and Natural Monument. Later, in 1952, its value was further recognized when it was designated as a National Special Scenic Spot. Historically, the area has managed its water resources carefully while preserving the natural environment. For example, while water from Lake Towada has been used for power generation and irrigation, meticulous management has been maintained to ensure the ecological balance remains intact.
