Oihira Park is a rich natural space located in Inabu-cho, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. The park's history is deeply connected to the 6th generation head of the Furuhashi family, Terunori, who dedicated himself to forestry and local education during the hardships of the Tenpo famine. The park was established by the Furuhashi family, featuring a monument erected by the County Agricultural Association to honor his contributions. Today, it is celebrated as one of the most iconic spots for autumn foliage in the Inabu area, offering breathtaking views of the Nagura River from the iconic Kaze-no-Tsuribashi (Wind Suspension Bridge).
The park's origins are tied to the Furuhashi family, who played a vital role in the region's development. Terunori Furuhashi worked to foster community resilience through forestry and the establishment of local schools during the difficult Tenpo era. The presence of the monument dedicated to his virtues serves as a reminder of the park's role in preserving local history, education, and industrial heritage. Oihira Park reveals a different face in every season. In spring and early summer (around May), the northern slopes come alive with blooming rhododendrons. From late June to early July, the area hosts firefly watching events, allowing visitors to observe the delicate ecosystem at night. In November, the 'Momiji Matsuri' (Autumn Leaves Festival) takes place, marking the peak of the vibrant autumn colors around the Nagura River. As the park is open 24 hours a day, the atmosphere changes beautifully from day to night, though daytime visits are best for observing detailed plant life.
