N's YARD is a private art space created by the world-renowned artist Yoshitomo Nara. Located in the nature-rich environment of Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture, the space is a seamless integration of architecture, garden, and exhibited works. The buildings are designed to harmonize with the surrounding landscape, making the scenery itself feel like a piece of art. Beyond its function as an art space, the facility includes a cafe and a shop, allowing visitors to enjoy relaxation and shopping through the lens of art.
This facility was established to house the personal collection of Yoshitomo Nara and to showcase works that reflect his unique artistic world. It is more than just an exhibition space; by combining architecture, a garden, and a cafe, it forms a complete cultural space. The design allows visitors to experience the unique atmosphere of Nara's work and its relationship with the natural environment through all five senses.
In the exhibition rooms, you can discover Yoshitomo Nara's works alongside record jackets, sculptures, and various other collections. Outside, a vast garden features sculptures set within nature and seasonal plantings that change with the time of year. The architecture itself is characterized by a minimal and sophisticated design, showcasing how the art responds to the surrounding environment. Additionally, the onsite 'Konara Cafe' and shop offer unique menu items and art-related goods.
The facility is designed to let you feel the changing seasons. From spring to autumn, it is particularly beautiful to observe the shifting colors of the garden and plants. During the daytime, natural light streaming through large windows highlights the textures of the artworks and architecture. As the facility approaches its 17:00 closing time, the shifting contrast of light and shadow offers a unique perspective found only at this location.
At N's YARD, there are many ways to spend your time beyond just viewing art. After exploring the exhibits, you can relax at the 'Konara Cafe,' enjoying a break in a highly designed, aesthetic space. The shop also offers original goods that can only be found here. Art, nature, food, and shopping all come together in one cohesive experience.
Located in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture, the site is easily visited in combination with sightseeing around the Nasu Highland area. The surrounding area features scenic spots, hot spring resorts (onsen), and other museums, making it an ideal destination for driving or touring.
