Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort is one of Japan's most prestigious ski destinations, located in Nozawa Onsen Village, Nagano Prefecture. The resort boasts 44 diverse courses, with approximately 40% of the terrain dedicated to beginner-friendly slopes. With a maximum vertical drop of about 1,085m and runs stretching up to 10km, it offers an incredible variety of terrain. The resort is famous for its high-quality powder snow, making it a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. Beyond the slopes, visitors can enjoy unique winter experiences such as snowshoeing and soaking in traditional hot springs.
The history of skiing in Nozawa Onsen dates back to 1912. The area has a rich sporting heritage, including the installation of a jump ramp in the Hikage area in 1925. By 1950, the area had already established itself as a modern ski destination with the installation of lifts. Originally managed by the village, the resort has been managed by Nozawa Onsen Co., Ltd. since 2005 under a designated manager system. This long-standing history has allowed the region to develop a unique culture where traditional hot spring (onsen) traditions and modern winter sports coexist seamlessly.
The resort is divided into several areas to accommodate different skill levels. The dynamic terrain, utilizing significant elevation changes, is a major draw for advanced skiers. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers exciting winter activities like snowshoeing through the serene snowy landscape and the thrilling 'Zip Sky Ride,' where you can glide through the air on a wire. When the season changes, the Uonotaira area transforms into a beautiful natural park featuring over 800 species of alpine plants, making it a wonderful destination for summer leisure and hiking as well.
The peak season is from late November to early May, when travelers flock to experience the legendary powder snow. The high season offers the best snow quality for enthusiasts. For those visiting in the spring (late March to early May), you can enjoy skiing amidst the beautiful spring scenery. In the summer, the area is perfect for walking through alpine flower fields and enjoying lunch in the fresh mountain air. For winter operations, the Nagasaka Gondola typically operates from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
There are plenty of ways to enjoy the snow beyond traditional skiing. The Zip Sky Ride is a standout activity, allowing you to experience the thrill of sliding down a wire while wearing a specialized harness. For a more peaceful experience, snowshoeing allows you to wander through the breathtaking white landscapes at your own pace. These activities ensure that everyone, regardless of skiing ability, can feel close to the beauty of the mountain nature.
Surrounding the ski resort is a charming, historic hot spring town. A popular way to end a day of activity is to relax in the local onsen to soothe your muscles. The resort also features various rest houses and dining facilities within the different areas to keep you fueled. During the warmer months, the Uonotaira area provides a lush, green environment perfect for nature lovers.

If you are purchasing lift passes, please note that a deposit for the IC card may be required. Please follow all posted safety rules and guidelines within the facility.
