Nippon Steel Corporation's East Japan Works (Kimitsu District) offers specialized factory tours through a reservation-only system. Located on a massive site facing Tokyo Bay, this facility allows visitors to feel the immense scale and energy of steel production. The program includes a guided tour via bus, allowing you to observe the production of steel products and various manufacturing processes from a unique vantage point.
This industrial area in northern Kimitsu City, facing Tokyo Bay, was established in 1965. A major milestone occurred in 1968 with the lighting of the first blast furnace, establishing a complete integrated production system for iron and steel. For decades, this site has served as a vital pillar of Japanese industry, building a rich history of steel production that supports the nation's infrastructure.
The centerpiece of the tour is the 'Rolling Process,' where steel products are shaped. The standard course lasts approximately 90 minutes. It begins with an exhibition tour at the Communication Hall, followed by a detailed video presentation. Afterward, participants board a dedicated bus to travel through the plant and observe the rolling process up close. Witnessing the precise yet powerful movement of transforming steel is a spectacle unique to this industrial landscape.
Factory tours are conducted only on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, during the morning session. Please note that tours are not held on Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays; therefore, it is crucial to verify the schedule in advance. We highly recommend visiting during the morning hours to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the active manufacturing site.
This program is designed to be an immersive experience rather than a simple observation. By combining video explanations with an actual bus tour through the facility, visitors can gain a deep, realistic understanding of the manufacturing process. Children (junior high school students and younger) are welcome to participate provided they are accompanied by a guardian.

Safety is the top priority at the factory, so appropriate clothing is required for all visitors. This tour is strictly by reservation only, and you must book in advance via telephone. Reservations open at 9:00 AM on the first business day, three months prior to the month of your intended visit. The reservation desk is available from 9:00 to 16:30. Additionally, children (junior high school students and younger) must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
