NIFREL is a unique museum located in the Expo '70 Commemorative Park area of Suita, Osaka. The concept is centered around "touching the senses," creating a space where the biological essence of living creatures and the beauty of art coexist. Unlike traditional exhibition styles, NIFREL offers a space where the vitality of life and artistic design resonate through distinct themes in each area, providing a truly immersive experience.
NIFREL was born from a fresh approach: not just displaying the ecology of living creatures, but reimagining them as works of art. It is designed not merely as a place for observation, but as a space that stimulates human sensibility and offers new perspectives. Since its opening in 2014, it has gained significant attention from both domestic and international visitors as a modern landmark in the Osaka/Kansai region.

The facility is divided into several areas that combine elements of an aquarium, botanical garden, and zoo. For instance, you will encounter displays where aquatic life appears as living art, and spaces where plants and animals coexist in harmony. The movement and colors of the creatures, combined with sophisticated lighting and artistic direction, create a narrative-like landscape that transforms the viewing experience into a story.
NIFREL reveals different expressions depending on the time of day. In the evenings, the museum may host special programs such as "Touching the Night." During these times, specialized lighting effects make the living creatures appear even more mystical and ethereal. Please note that entry to these special evening sessions requires a specific ticket available only through the official website.
Visitors can experience the ecology of living things up close. The movement of creatures in tanks, the textures of plants, and the behaviors of animals are presented alongside artistic elements. By wandering through the different zones, you can witness the intersection of natural vitality and human creativity in a way that feels both organic and curated.
NIFREL is situated in the Expo '70 Commemorative Park area of Suita, Osaka. The surrounding area features the vast grounds of the park, home to the iconic Tower of the Sun. It is easy to combine a visit to NIFREL with a stroll through the park, making it a perfect addition to an Osaka sightseeing itinerary. The location is easily accessible from central Osaka.
The facility provides a comfortable environment, but visitors should wear clothing suitable for walking and observing. While photography is generally permitted, the use of flash and tripods is restricted to protect the exhibits and the well-being of the creatures. For payments, credit cards and various transportation IC cards are accepted in addition to cash. To ensure a smooth entry and avoid long queues, we highly recommend purchasing your tickets online in advance.
