Natsui Senbonzakura is an exquisitely beautiful cherry blossom-renowned spot stretching along both banks of the Natsui River in Ono Town, Fukushima Prefecture. The sight of approximately 1,000 Somei-yoshino cherry trees blooming over a 5km stretch is nothing short of breathtaking. This beautiful landscape has been preserved through the dedication of local volunteers who have planted saplings over many years, making it a symbolic scenery that heralds the arrival of spring and attracts many visitors. With well-maintained walking paths, the greatest charm of this location is the ability to enjoy a leisurely stroll under the full bloom while listening to the gentle murmur of the river.
This beautiful row of cherry trees was not merely a natural occurrence but was shaped by the passion of the local community. There is a history of collecting donations to plant saplings through local initiatives, and the strength of the community has sustained this landscape. This harmony between nature and human effort has created the stunning scenery of the N-atsui River seen today.
The biggest highlight is undoubtedly the path lined with Somei-yoshino cherry trees that fill both sides of the river. Under the bright blue spring sky, the sight of full blooms reflecting on the water surface is incredibly photogenic. Additionally, during the night, a light-up event is held, allowing visitors to enjoy a mystical view of the cherry blossoms floating in the darkness. The way the illuminated blossoms reflect on the river surface creates a dramatic beauty quite different from the daytime. You can also enjoy the seasonal color changes, such as the yellow narcissus blooming at the foot of the trees.
The best season is from mid-April to late April. During this period, the "Natsui Senbonzakura Festival" is often held, making it the most vibrant time to visit. Nighttime illuminations typically occur from around 18:00 to 22:00 (subject to change based on blooming status), offering a magical world different from the day.
