The Nasu Kogen Observatory is a scenic lookout located in Yumoto, Nasu Town, Nasu District, Tochigi Prefecture, situated at a high altitude of 1,048 meters. In June 2010, this location was officially registered as the 100th 'Lovers' Sanctuary' in Japan. On clear days, visitors can enjoy a vast, sweeping panorama that extends even to the Yamizo mountain range. The site is highly versatile, offering lush natural landscapes during the day and a spectacular starlit night view in the evening.
Beyond its natural beauty, the observatory holds significant cultural value as a 'Lovers' Sanctuary.' It is a designated location for romantic proposals, featuring commemorative monuments and stone structures. The area maintains a sense of harmony between the natural environment and the historical-style stone monuments that mark its status as a place of romance.

The most striking feature is the expansive field of vision afforded by the high altitude. During the day, you can observe the majestic mountain ranges, including the Yamizo Mountains, while at night, the area offers a mesmerizing view of the surrounding lights. The stone monuments symbolizing the 'Lovers' Sanctuary' serve as popular backdrops for commemorative photography.
The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons. From April to November, the bright daylight highlights the vibrant colors of nature. From December to March, the operating hours are shortened, so please check the schedule in advance. The location is excellent for observing night views, but visitors should be mindful of the significant temperature drops after sunset.

The primary activity here is observing the high-altitude panoramic landscapes. It is a popular destination for significant life events like marriage proposals, allowing couples to enjoy a peaceful and romantic atmosphere. A typical visit lasts about 30 minutes to enjoy the surrounding scenery.
The area is dotted with spots where you can experience the nature and culture of Nasu Kogen. Nearby attractions include the Nasu Kogen Visitor Center and various facilities focused on the natural environment. The area is easily accessible by car, making it a perfect destination for a scenic drive.
Because the observatory is at an altitude of 1,048 meters, the temperature is generally lower than in the lowlands. Please prepare clothing suitable for the season, including layers for warmth. A free parking lot with a capacity for 220 cars (including 30 large buses) is available.
