The Nakatsu City Obata Memorial Library is a public facility of exceptional architectural value located in Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture. Following his donation of books, land, and a residence, the predecessor to this library was established in 1909. The roots of this library trace back to the Nakatsu Library established in 1909. Atsujiro Obata, known as a key figure associated with the spirit of modern education, laid the foundation for this institution through his passion for learning. In 1912, it was renamed the "Obata Memorial Library Foundation" and served as a vital cultural hub for the region for many years. In 1947, it was transferred to the administration of Nakatsu City. The current building, completed in 1993, serves as a symbol of the region's cultural identity through its modern and refined design by Fumihiko Maki.
