Nakanoshima Park is a prominent landmark in Osaka, situated on an island nestled between two rivers: the Dojima River and the Tosabori River. Despite being surrounded by a skyline of modern skyscrapers, the park offers a harmonious blend of lush nature and historic architecture. It is one of Osaka's most iconic spots, where visitors can enjoy the changing seasons, particularly through its famous rose gardens and scenic waterfront views.
The Nakanoshima area has flourished as a center of commerce and culture since the Edo period. The park itself was originally created as an artificial island through river improvement projects and was developed into a public park during the Meiji era. During the Taisho era, the park expanded, and this period saw the construction of grand Western-style buildings like the Nakanoshima Central Public Hall and the Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library, establishing the area as a cultural hub. Having overcome the challenges of the Second World War, the park stands today as a beloved space for both locals and tourists.

Nakanoshima Park offers a variety of experiences for every visitor.
At the heart of the park lies a magnificent rose garden stretching approximately 500 meters. It features about 100 varieties and roughly 4,000 rose bushes. The best time to visit is mid-May or mid-October when the blooms are at their peak. The vibrant colors create a breathtaking landscape, and special light-up events are sometimes held toward the end of the year.
The surrounding area is home to numerous historic buildings dating from the Meiji and Taisho eras. Structures such as the Nakanoshima Central Public Hall and the Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library possess a dignified, classic atmosphere that showcases Osaka's rich history. These buildings are even recognized as part of the "Osaka Midori no Hyakusen" (Osaka's Top 100 Greenery Sites).
Leveraging its location between the Dojima and Tosabori Rivers, the park offers beautiful waterfront views. The riverside promenade is a perfect area for a relaxing stroll. The Nakanoshima Green Path, extending from Yodoyabashi to Higobashi, is rich with greenery like zelkova trees and azaleas, and features 10 different sculptures that allow visitors to enjoy art while walking.
The park's charm changes with the seasons. In spring, it is a famous spot for cherry blossom viewing and festivals. In autumn, the foliage is spectacular. During summer, outdoor concerts and illuminations are common. At night, the riverside and historic buildings are beautifully illuminated, offering a much more mystical and romantic atmosphere than during the day.

With wide lawns and ponds, the park is ideal for relaxing in a natural environment. Being close to various cultural facilities, museums, and libraries, visitors can often enjoy cultural events and exhibitions. Whether you are seeking a quiet moment by the water or an artistic stroll through the sculpture paths, Nakanishoma provides a perfect urban escape.
Nakanoshima Park is exceptionally well-located in central Osaka. It is easily accessible from the Osaka Station and Umeda areas, making it a very convenient starting point for your sightseeing tour. Many commercial and cultural facilities are located in the immediate vicinity.

As the park is quite large, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please respect the historical buildings and the public environment by following local etiquette and disposing of trash properly.
