Nakanojo Gardens, located in Nakanojo Town, Gunma Prefecture, is a stunning garden facility where nature and botanical beauty intertwine. The facility is composed of seven distinct garden areas, each offering a different charm, such as rose gardens, wisteria trellises, and even a garden maze. Beyond the seasonal floral displays, the site offers a place for true relaxation, featuring farms, playgrounds, and a shop specializing in local Nakanojio products.
The local culture is deeply rooted in living in harmony with nature. Within the gardens, you can find a traditional plant-dyeing workshop where local elders meticulously craft items, preserving and passing down regional techniques and cultural heritage to the modern era. The management of the gardens is also carefully synchronized with the natural cycle, adjusting the display periods of various plants to match the changing seasons.
The garden features diverse areas to explore. Depending on when you visit, you can witness the Rose Garden where roses are the star, the "Peach Blossom Hill" with its tunnels of pink peach blossoms, or the enchanting wisteria trellises and garden mazes. At the Nakanojo Gardens Shop, you can find exclusive local treats such as 100% fruit juice from local farmers, limited-edition apple chips harvested from the garden's own apple orchards, and beautiful plant-dyed tote bags.
Recommended visiting times vary by season. From March to April, the "Peach Blossom Hill Festival" is held, featuring approximately 1,000 pink peach trees alongside yellow forsythia and white spirea. From late May to mid-June, the Rose Garden reaches its peak splendor. During this period, a "Special Morning Rose Garden Opening" is held starting as early as 7:30 AM, allowing visitors to enjoy a quiet stroll away from the crowds. Additionally, an Autumn Rose Garden Fair is typically scheduled from late September to mid-October.
The garden hosts various seasonal fairs and events. For instance, in June, the "Spring Rose Garden Fair & Bulgaria Friendship Fair" may be held. For dining, the "Minohara Shokudo" restaurant serves dishes made with local ingredients, such as seasonal chilled udon noodles. Shopping for local goods and relaxing in the lush natural environment are the primary ways to enjoy your visit.
The area surrounding Nakanojo Gardens is rich in natural beauty. The adjacent plant-dyeing workshop offers a chance to touch upon local traditional crafts. The area is also well-equipped with farms and playgrounds, making it an ideal destination for families with children.
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. While bringing your own food and drinks (including alcohol) is permitted, please do not bring any fire-related items, combustion tools, or weapons. Open flames and campfires are strictly prohibited. Pets are not allowed in the garden. Regarding attire, please avoid overly revealing clothing or visible tattoos; using covers or supporters is requested. While parking is available on-site, please note that vehicles are not allowed to drive within the garden grounds.
