Mt. Nabekamori is a mountain with an altitude of 169m, characterized by its unique shape resembling a pot lid (as its name suggests). Surrounded by lush greenery, it is a beloved spot for local residents. The highlight is the corridor-style observatory, renovated in 2016. From here, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Nagasaki Port, the city, and Mt. Inasa across the sea. Since it is about half the height of Mt. Inasa (333m), it provides a more intimate and three-dimensional perspective of Nagasaki's iconic bowl-shaped topography.
This area plays a vital role in preserving the historical landscape of Nagasaki. The surrounding area is dotted with components of the 'Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution' World Heritage sites, making it a significant location for understanding the region's history. The mountain itself maintains a rich natural environment and serves as a key point for understanding the unique geographical features of Nagasaki.
The observatory offers a diverse range of scenery. You can witness large cruise ships docking at Nagasaki Port or passing through the Megami Bridge. The view also includes the silhouette of Mt. Inasa on the opposite shore and the historic cityscape of Nagasaki, including the Glover Garden area. Many famous tourist attractions are located near Mt. Nabekamori. It offers easy access to the World Heritage site Glover Garden and various facilities around Nagasaki Port. Cash or credit cards can be used for nearby parking facilities. However, there is no entrance fee to access the park and observatory area itself.
Some signs and information boards are provided in English, though most information is primarily in Japanese.
No advance reservation is required to visit.
As the observatory is an outdoor area, it can be windy. We recommend wearing clothing appropriate for the season and comfortable walking shoes.
