Mitaraibashi Valley is a lush, natural sanctuary located in Kitakado, Tenkawa Village, Nara Prefecture. It is a tributary of the Yamauchi River, originating from the Omine Mountains. The area is famous for its diverse waterfalls, massive rock formations, and a stream so clear you can see straight to the bottom. A well-maintained 8km trail allows you to walk through the heart of nature while enjoying dynamic landscapes. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons, from the vibrant greenery of early summer to the breathtaking colors of autumn.
The valley holds deep connections to the history of the Southern Court of Japan. One legend suggests that members of the Southern Court performed 'Misogi' (ritual purification) in these waters. Another legend tells of the 'Light Waterfall,' where light was said to shine through the falls toward Prince Korechika. These stories add a layer of spiritual and historical depth to the natural beauty. Nearby, you can also find historical spots such as the Daisho Daigongen Shrine.

There are several unforgettable spots within the valley. One of the most iconic is the Aiden Bridge, a suspension bridge that offers a panoramic view of the emerald green pools and the majestic Mitaraibashi Waterfall. Another highlight is the 'Light Waterfall,' named for the way sunlight pierces through the falling water, and the 'Great Katsura Tree,' known for its complex and beautiful shape. Because the trail has an elevation change of about 200 meters, the scenery changes significantly depending on which route you take.
The valley offers a different face in every season. From spring to summer, the fresh greenery is exceptionally vibrant and the water is incredibly clear. In autumn, the surrounding forest turns into a colorful tapestry of red and gold. While the walking paths are open year-round, it is best to visit during daylight hours to fully enjoy the natural light and colors.

The primary activity is hiking and nature walking along the maintained trails. You can start from the Tenkawa Village Information Center and walk toward the Dorogawa Onsen area, or vice versa. After your hike, it is highly recommended to visit the Dorogawa Onsen Visitor Center or nearby hot spring facilities to relax and rejuvenate your body.
The area around the valley is well-equipped for travelers. The Tenkawa Village Information Center and the Dorogawa Onsen Visitor Center serve as perfect starting points or rest stops for hikers. Additionally, the nearby Dorogawa Onsen district is a famous hot spring town, allowing you to combine a nature walk with a relaxing soak in a traditional way.

When exploring the valley, please prepare with comfortable walking shoes and clothing suitable for movement. Since the trails involve elevation changes, sturdy hiking gear is recommended.
