Misaki Park is a scenic destination located near the border of Kaho City in Akita Prefecture, jutting out into the Sea of Japan. The park derives its name from the three distinct capes: Kannonzaki, Daishizaki, and Fudozaki. The entire area is also known as 'Misaki Mountain' and offers a landscape shaped by the powerful forces of the Sea of Japan. It is a representative lookout spot in the region where nature, history, and leisure seamlessly blend.
This region has historically served as a vital transportation hub along the Sea of Japan. The 'Misaki Mountain Old Highway,' which functioned as a unique route since the 15th century, is designated as a historical site of Akita Prefecture. Records show that the famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho and the renowned cartographer Ino Tadataka both passed through this area. Furthermore, the site holds deep historical weight as a location of battles during the Boshin War, and memorial towers dedicated to those lost in the conflict still stand today, maintained with great respect.
From the park, you can enjoy an expansive view of the Sea of Japan. A unique feature of this location is the ability to view the dramatic rock formations sculpted by the waves alongside the distant Ishijima Island.
