Minatoyama Park is a beautiful urban park located in the city of Yonago, Tottori Prefecture, adjacent to the Nakaumi Sea. The park features a well-maintained seaside promenade where visitors can enjoy refreshing sea breezes while walking. It is renowned as one of the best spots to witness the breathtaking sunset over Nakaumi, where the sky and water surface turn a dramatic crimson as the sun dips toward the horizon. With its lush greenery and open spaces, the park serves as a perfect destination for jogging, picnics, or a romantic date, offering a peaceful escape for all visitors.
The area surrounding the park has a deep historical connection to the Nakaumi coastline. Historically known as "Kinko Park," the area has undergone various stages of development through the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras. During the Taisho era, it became a famous spot for cherry blossoms, and various flora such as weeping willows and azaleas were planted to enhance its beauty. Furthermore, the region once had a vibrant culture of rowing and boat racing on Nakaumi, making it a hub for local sports. Today, it remains a vital part of the community as a modern urban park where history and nature coexist.

The greatest charm of Minatoyama Park lies in its seasonal transformations. In spring, approximately 500 Yoshino cherry trees bloom in full splendor, making it one of the premier cherry blossom destinations in the Yonago area. The promenade lined with these trees is ideal for Hanami (flower viewing). Another must-see is the sunset; the way the Nakaumi water surface reflects the orange and red hues of the sky is truly unforgettable. During the spring festival, over 100 traditional lanterns (bonbori) are lit, casting a warm, nostalgic light over the park. Additionally, the area hosts cultural events such as those related to the "Guina Festival" in August, allowing visitors to experience local traditions.
Spring (March to April) is the most highly recommended season when the entire park is bathed in pink blossoms. The "Yonago Sakura Festival" in early April is particularly special, featuring beautiful night illuminations that create a romantic atmosphere. For the best experience, we recommend visiting 30 minutes before sunset. Watching the sun descend toward the horizon of Nakaumi is a unique experience that only this location can provide. In summer, the evening landscapes and local events also offer a different kind of charm.

There are many ways to enjoy the park. You can engage in light exercise like walking or jogging along the seaside path, or simply relax while gazing at the sea. The spacious green areas are perfect for picnics with family or friends. Whether you are seeking a quiet moment of relaxation in nature or participating in a seasonal local festival, the park offers a versatile environment for all types of visitors.
The park is conveniently located near the urban center of Yonago City. It is within walking distance or a short drive from JR Yonago Station, making it very accessible for travelers. The surrounding area features various accommodations and dining options, making the park a great base for exploring the Tottori region.
For a comfortable visit, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing a light jacket, as the sea breeze can be quite strong.
