The cherry blossoms of Matsukawa River are a celebrated scenic spot located along the Matsukawa River in Toyama City. As spring arrives, the cherry trees lining both banks reach full bloom, creating a magnificent 'cherry blossom tunnel' that seems to cover the sky. During the day, the landscape is incredibly emotive, characterized by the harmony of the gentle river flow, clear blue skies, and soft pink blossoms. At night, the area transforms into a mystical world through light-up events, where the contrast between the illuminated white blossoms, the dark night sky, and their reflections on the water creates a breathtaking spectacle. The sight of the iconic red sightseeing boats moving through the river serves as a quintessential accent to this scenery.
The landscape along the Matsukawa River has long been cherished as a symbolic view of Toyama City. Located near areas with historical castle architecture, the region maintains a beautiful harmony between nature and urban history. During the cherry blossom season, it becomes a place where many gather to celebrate the arrival of spring amidst traditional scenery. In recent years, landscape maintenance, including riverbank improvements and tree planting, has been carried out to preserve this beautiful view for future generations.

The greatest charm lies in the rows of cherry trees along the riverbanks. From the perspective of a sightseeing boat, visitors can enjoy a rich, colorful view of the blossoms and the water. During the nighttime illumination period, the white blossoms stand out brilliantly against the darkness, and the light reflecting on the water is exceptionally beautiful. The Isobe堤 (Isobe Embankment) area is particularly notable for its vast landscape featuring hundreds of cherry trees. Well-maintained walkways allow you to enjoy the view while feeling the gentle flow of the river.
The best season is from late March to mid-April. During the day, you can enjoy the vibrant colors under bright sunlight; we recommend taking photos in the soft light of the afternoon. The nighttime illumination is a must-see, typically occurring between 18:00 and 23:00. The illuminated blossoms offer a completely different, more mystical expression compared to the daytime. Please note that paths may be dark during the night, so caution is advised when walking.

A very popular activity is taking a sightseeing boat to drift along the river. Looking up at the cherry blossom tunnel from the red boat provides a unique perspective different from viewing from the shore. You can also enjoy a leisurely stroll along the riverbanks to feel the changing seasons. Please note that some areas may be restricted to protect the roots of the cherry trees.
The surrounding area features several spots with historical significance. Nearby locations such as Toyama Castle Park and the Toyama City Folklore Museum allow you to enjoy the harmony of traditional Japanese architecture and nature. Additionally, local restaurants offer a chance to enjoy Toyama's unique local cuisine. Combining these visits will deepen your appreciation of Toyama's charm.

Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. Especially when enjoying the nighttime illuminations, please choose footwear that provides good grip as paths can be dark. Regarding payments, many nearby facilities and sightseeing boats accept cash, credit cards, and transportation IC cards. English signage and menus vary by facility. Finally, please respect the rules by staying out of restricted areas to protect the cherry tree roots.
