Masumizu Kogen is a tranquil plateau area characterized by gentle hills located at the western foot of Mt. Daisen in Tottori Prefecture. By using the Sky Lift to ascend to a higher altitude, visitors can enjoy a magnificent perspective of the surrounding landscape. From the summit area, a vast panorama unfolds, offering views of the Sea of Japan, the Yumigahama Peninsula, and even the Shimane Peninsula. The area is celebrated for its changing seasonal scenery, from vibrant greenery to shifting topographical views.
This area has long been intertwined with the natural beauty of Mt. Daisen. The infrastructure used here shows the adaptability of the region; equipment that serves as ski lifts during the winter is operated as the 'Sky Lift' from summer through autumn, showcasing a seasonal transition in leisure activities. Furthermore, the area is rich in cultural heritage, with historical routes leading toward Daisen-ji Temple and the preservation of ancient, lush beech forests, reflecting a culture that lives in harmony with nature.
The most captivating experience is the 'aerial stroll' via the Sky Lift. The approximately 8-minute ride allows you to watch the horizon expand as you ascend the plateau. Once you reach the summit, the unobstructed view provides a sense of immense scale, revealing distant coastlines and islands. The landscape is also defined by the unique scenery of Ichinosawa, Ninosawa, and the Saninosawa area, where one of Japan's most beautiful beech forests spreads out, offering a view unique to this location.
The Sky Lift is operational from spring to autumn (typically April to November), making it the perfect time to view the plateau from above. The scenery is particularly lush and green from May through September. In contrast, the area transitions to a focus on skiing during the winter months. For the best experience, we recommend visiting during the daytime when visibility is highest and the sky is clearest, allowing for the most impressive panoramic views.
After ascending the slopes via the Sky Lift, visitors can enjoy hiking along the 'Yokote Path' toward the Daisen-ji Temple area. This path leads through a serene beech forest, allowing you to observe the intricate details of the forest landscape as you walk a direct, peaceful route. The trails through the Ichinosawa and Saninosawa areas offer a wonderful way to explore the edges of Mt. Daisen on foot.
The area surrounding Masumizu Kogen is home to various tourism resources, including the Daisen Kogen Resort and Daisen Makiba. The hiking paths connecting to the Daisen-ji Temple area ensure that visitors can enjoy a continuous immersion in nature and a long, refreshing walk through the mountains.
