Mamigasaki Sakura Line is a stunning cherry blossom destination stretching approximately 2.3 km along the banks of the Mamigasaki River in the heart of Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture. The area is home to about 200 Yoshino cherry trees, which transform the entire riverbank into a vibrant pink tunnel during the spring season. The harmony of the lush natural landscape, the flowing river, and the elegant cherry blossoms provides a deeply healing and moving experience for all visitors.
This landscape has been cherished by the local community for generations and serves as a symbol of the natural beauty of Yamagata City. The area has been carefully preserved as a place to experience the changing seasons alongside the flow of the Mamigasaki River. The cherry blossom season, in particular, is a significant cultural event, drawing many tourists and locals alike to celebrate the arrival of spring.

The greatest highlight is undoubtedly the cherry blossom path that lines both sides of the river. When the Yoshino cherry trees reach full bloom, they create a dense canopy that almost hides the sky, allowing visitors to feel the pure energy of nature as they walk beneath. Additionally, during the night, certain sections are illuminated, offering a magical view of the 'night sakura' that differs greatly from the daytime scenery. The sight of the glowing pink blossoms reflected on the water surface creates an incredibly romantic and emotional atmosphere.
The best season to visit is from early to mid-April, when the cherry blossoms are typically in full bloom. During the day, we recommend enjoying the striking contrast between the bright pink blossoms and the clear blue sky under the sunlight. For a completely different experience, the night-time 'light-up' events are a must-see. The way the blossoms glow against the darkness is incredibly beautiful and romantic. You can also enjoy the sight of falling petals on the river surface during the late bloom period.
A classic way to spend your time is taking a leisurely stroll under the cherry blossom tunnel and capturing photos. The riverside paths are perfect for a relaxing walk while feeling the essence of the season. During the peak season, you may also encounter local food stalls and small events, allowing you to experience the local atmosphere and seasonal flavors. It is a wonderful place to relax and connect with nature.
