Maiko Park is a spacious, seaside park located in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. Its most striking feature is the magnificent view of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, one of the world's largest suspension bridges, standing majestically over the sea. The landscape harmoniously blends the deep blue ocean with lush greenery. The park features well-maintained promenades along the coastline and vast lawn areas. Additionally, the presence of approximately 1,800 pine trees creates a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing stroll amidst nature.
The area surrounding Maiko Park has been known as "Maiko Hama" (Maiko Beach) since ancient times. It has long been celebrated as a scenic spot due to its beautiful scenery of white sand, green pines, and the view of Awaji Island. During the Edo period, the famous ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige depicted "Harima Maiko no Hama" in his works, showcasing the historical allure of this landscape. Furthermore, the renowned Japanese novelist Naoya Shiga also described the evocative beauty of the Maiko coastline in his literary works, cementing its place in Japanese cultural history.
The park is filled with photogenic spots that capture the imagination. The sight of the massive Akashi Kaikyo Bridge structure against the horizon is truly awe-inspiring. At dusk, you can witness a romantic scene where the sun sets behind the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. The park is exceptionally easy to access via public transport. It is located within walking distance of both JR Maiko Station and Maiko-Koen Station (Sanyo Electric Railway), making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the Kobe and Awaji Island areas.
As the park covers a large area, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Since the coastal area can be quite windy, please prepare clothing suitable for the season and weather conditions. For payments at nearby facilities or transportation, cash, credit cards, and IC cards (like Suica/Pasmo) are generally accepted. Please note that English-language signage may be limited, so checking details in advance is helpful. While no reservation is required for general park use, please check specific facility rules if you plan to use certain amenities.
