Mahara (Shin'ya) Sakura Trees is a breathtaking cherry blossom path stretching approximately 750 meters in length, located in Takawa Town, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Situated in a highland area at an altitude of about 680m to 690m, the path offers a spectacular view with the majestic Mount Kaikomendake rising in the background. The path is lined with approximately 200 Yoshino cherry trees, creating a seamless harmony between the delicate pink blossoms and the rugged mountain landscape. The peak viewing season typically occurs in early April, with the full bloom lasting for a few days to about a week.
This region is renowned for its rich natural environment and highland scenery that changes beautifully with each season. The Yoshino cherry trees along the Mahara path have a history of approximately 45 years, serving as a vital part of the local natural landscape. The area maintains a harmonious balance between agriculture and nature, attracting many visitors who come to witness the seasonal transitions of this scenic highland.
The most iconic view is the sight of Mount Kaikomendake framed by the end of the 750m cherry blossom path. The contrast between the soft pink hues of the Yoshino cherry trees and the imposing presence of the high mountain behind them is a unique visual experience found only here. The best time to visit is early April. While full bloom often occurs around April 1st, it can vary depending on the year's temperature. The blossoms look particularly vibrant under bright daylight, but since the scenery changes with the weather, it is wise to check the latest bloom reports. Note that the peak bloom here tends to occur a few days to 10 days later than the famous 'Yamada Takaginko Sakura' nearby.

During the cherry blossom season, events such as the 'Mahara Sakura Trees Marche' may be held, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the local food and culture.
There are many other famous cherry blossom spots in the vicinity. For instance, the nearby 'Yamada Takaginko Sakura' offers a different character and blooming schedule. Since this is a high-altitude highland area, you can easily combine your visit with other sightseeing spots in Yamanashi to enjoy the vast, natural landscapes of the region.
Because the altitude is approximately 680m, temperatures can be quite low even during the spring. It is highly recommended to bring a jacket or layers for warmth. For payments at local stands or events, cash, credit cards, and various IC cards are generally accepted. Please be aware that parking areas become very crowded during the peak season, so plan your travel early. Please note that organized parties (hanami/drinking parties) are strictly prohibited.
