Catholic Magome Church is a beautiful Gothic-style church located on Iojima Island in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture. The origins of this church date back to 1871 (Meiji 4), when a small chapel was built by local believers during a period of strict religious prohibition. While a brick church constructed in 1890 suffered damage from a typhoon, the current structure was completed in 1931 (Showa 6). It stands as a testament to the faith that local believers have protected through Nagasaki's complex and often difficult history, serving as a spiritual pillar for the community. The Gothic architectural style, characterized by its emphasis on verticality, creates a solemn and majestic space dedicated to prayer.
