Lotte Arai Resort is a premium stay-style resort located in the Myoko area of Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture. Originally opened in 1993 as a leisure facility featuring a ski resort, restaurants, and hotels, it has since evolved under the management of the Lotte Group. Today, it stands as a high-end mountain resort offering world-class skiing, snowboarding, hot spring relaxation, and various seasonal activities. The slopes spread out at the foot of Mt. Daimokon (elevation 1,429m), an area renowned for its exceptional snow quality and breathtaking natural environment.
The history of this resort dates back to the construction started in 1991. It first opened in 1993 as the 'ARAI MOUNTAIN & SKI RESORT.' Over the years, it underwent several name changes, such as 'ARAI MOUNTAIN & SNOW PARK' and 'ARAI MOUNTAIN & SPA,' as it expanded its facilities to include pools, aesthetic spas, and hot spring baths. In 2015, the facility was acquired by Hotel & Resort Joetsu Myoko Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the South Korean Hotel Lotte Group. In December 2017, it underwent a complete rebranding and grand reopening as 'Lotte Arai Resort.' Having transitioned through various management eras, it has now established itself as an internationally recognized, high-quality destination for travelers.
The core attraction of the resort is its expansive ski slopes. During the winter season, guests can enjoy high-quality powder snow and excellent riding conditions. Beyond the slopes, the resort features well-maintained hot spring (onsen) facilities, making it the perfect place to relax and recover after a day of skiing or snowboarding. Additionally, the resort offers a 'First Class' lift pass option, which provides priority access to lifts and gondolas, ensuring a more seamless and luxurious experience. Whether you are visiting for the winter thrills or the seasonal relaxation of the hot springs, the resort offers a versatile way to enjoy the changing seasons.
The winter season (December to approximately May) is the peak time for skiing and snowboarding. With snow sports often available until May, visitors can enjoy extended mountain activities. When night skiing is available, lifts can be used until 20:00. During the non-snow seasons, the focus shifts to a relaxing stay centered around the resort's amenities, hot springs, and the beautiful surrounding natural scenery. This allows for a diverse range of activities depending on the time of year.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding, the resort specializes in relaxation through its hot spring facilities and high-end leisure-based stays. Historically, the resort has expanded its offerings, including designated areas for off-piste skiing and enhanced hot spring facilities. The premium services, such as the priority access provided by certain lift passes, offer a unique and comfortable way to navigate the mountain-side activities.
The resort is situated in the scenic Myoko area of Myoko City. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the majestic mountains, including Mt. Daimokon, providing a rich natural environment. The entire Myoko region is famous as a premier ski destination, allowing visitors to combine their stay at Lotte Arai with exploration of other nearby ski resorts, local hot springs, and stunning natural landscapes.
For winter visitors, high-performance thermal wear and professional skiing/snowboarding gear are essential. When using the hot spring facilities, please bring appropriate clothing for changing. We recommend checking the current status of credit card and IC card acceptance before your visit. Please respect the rules of the ski slopes and hot spring areas to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant stay for all guests.
