Kyushu African Safari, located in Hita, Oita Prefecture, is one of the largest safari parks in the Kyushu region. The vast grounds are home to majestic large animals such as lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, and zebras, alongside formidable carnivores like leopards and cheetahs, and various herbivores. The park's signature style involves traveling through animal habitats by vehicle, allowing visitors to feel the raw power of nature from a safe yet incredibly close distance.
The facility is operated with a strong emphasis on creating an environment that respects the natural behaviors of animals. For many years, the park has focused on the themes of animal breeding, conservation, and the coexistence of humans and wildlife. Rather than being a simple exhibition facility, it is designed to mimic natural habitats, allowing visitors to observe authentic animal behaviors in a setting that respects their biological needs.

The greatest attraction is the tour via the dedicated "Jungle Bus." Riding in these heavy-duty, reinforced vehicles, you enter the areas where animals roam freely. Through the thick glass windows, you can witness breathtaking moments, such as a lion or tiger approaching the vehicle, or a massive elephant or giraffe peering in at you. For those seeking a more private experience, the "My Car Safari" allows you to drive your own vehicle into the animal zones, offering a personal way to observe wildlife at your own pace.
While the park is open year-round, the activity levels of the animals change with the seasons. During the bright daylight hours, you are most likely to see animals actively moving and interacting. Some seasons may also feature special nighttime programs or events. We recommend checking the weather and adjusting your clothing according to the temperature to ensure a comfortable visit regardless of the season.

There are two primary ways to experience the safari: the "Jungle Bus" and "My Car Safari." The Jungle Bus is the standard, highly recommended way to experience the park, as staff guide the vehicle close to the animals for maximum impact. The My Car Safari offers more freedom, allowing you to navigate the paths at your own speed in your own vehicle. Additionally, the park features educational areas where you can learn about animal ecology, as well as various rest facilities.
The area surrounding Kyushu African Safari is blessed with the beautiful natural landscapes and famous hot spring towns of Oita Prefecture. The park is conveniently located near famous onsen destinations like Beppu Onsen and Yufuin. A perfect travel itinerary involves enjoying the excitement of the safari during the day and relaxing in a hot spring in the evening. It is an ideal stop on any Kyushu sightseeing route.
Since movement is primarily by vehicle, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing. If you are using the My Car Safari, wear something that allows you to easily operate your windows if an animal approaches. Regarding ticket rules: Jungle Bus tickets are sold strictly based on the number of people physically present at the park, following the order of arrival. Please note that you cannot purchase tickets for people who are not currently on-site. Always follow the instructions of the staff regarding photography and safety.
