The Ex-Sasebo Wireless Telegraph Station, commonly known as the Hario Radio Towers, is a historic site located in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture. It consists of three massive reinforced concrete radio towers, each standing approximately 136 meters tall. Completed in 1922 (the 11th year of the Taisho era), this facility was constructed using the highest technological standards of the time. Today, it is designated as a National Important Cultural Property and is recognized as a key component of the 'Japan Heritage: Naval Bases of Yokosuka, Kure, Sasebo, and Maizuru.' The three towers are arranged in an equilateral triangle with a spacing of about 300 meters, creating a striking and unique silhouette that can be seen from a distance.
This facility was built by the former Imperial Japanese Navy to meet the increasing demand for wireless communication following the Russo-Japanese War. The construction process took approximately four years, utilizing the pinnacle of engineering at the time. Historically, the site is also noted for its role in relaying coded messages related to the onset of the Pacific War. After the war, the facility was managed by the Japan Coast Guard and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, serving its role as a wireless station until 1997. In 2013, the radio towers, the telegraph office, and the oil storage building were officially designated as National Important Cultural Properties. As a concrete structure from the Taisho era, it remains one of the tallest surviving examples of its kind.

The most impressive feature is the trio of radio towers, reaching a height of 136 meters. Each tower features a robust structure with a base diameter of approximately 12 meters and a thickness of about 76 centimeters. The triangular arrangement within the vast grounds creates a powerful presence. Additionally, the site preserves auxiliary facilities such as the telegraph office and oil storage buildings, which serve as precious historical records of the communication operations of that era. Occasionally, the site offers special openings where visitors can better understand the internal structures and historical roles of these buildings.
The facility is generally open during daylight hours. While the massive structures can be viewed in any season, visiting during bright daylight hours allows for a better view of the concrete textures and the intricate details of the towers. The silhouette of the towers against the sky changes beautifully depending on the time of day and weather conditions. Occasional guided tours by volunteers may be available. Visitors can learn about the evolution of wireless communication technology and the architectural engineering of the era. There are also opportunities to enter the telegraph office and oil storage buildings to experience the physical environment of historical communications firsthand.
The area surrounding the facility features scenic landscapes, including the nearby Saikai Bridge. The site is also part of the 'Sasebo Naval Legacy Trip' route, which explores the historical remains of the city as a naval port.
