The history of this building dates back to the founding of "Ki-Konishiya" (the predecessor of the current Konishi Co., Ltd.) in 1870 (Meiji 3) as a medicine merchant. The company expanded its business from the production and sale of alcohol and Western spirits to industrial chemicals and chemical products, and this building evolved alongside that growth. In the post-war era, the company became widely known as the manufacturer of the adhesive "Bond," and the history of the enterprise is etched into this site. In 2001, its historical and architectural value was officially recognized when it was designated as a National Important Cultural Property by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
