The Former Kaichi School is a historic elementary school building located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. In 2019, it was officially designated as a National Treasure. It is renowned as a representative example of "pseudo-Western architecture," where traditional Japanese design elements seamlessly blend with Western architectural styles. This site offers a unique window into the era of "Civilization and Enlightenment," allowing visitors to see how Japanese education evolved through its preserved structures and documents. Following seismic reinforcement work, the facility officially reopened in November 2024.

Please note that the facility is closed on the 3rd Tuesday of certain months, so it is advisable to check the schedule before your visit.
