Kyusui Valley (Kyusui-kei) is a magnificent canyon located in Kusu Town, Oita Prefecture, formed by the Kusu and Naruko Rivers. The landscape features dramatic cliffs stretching for approximately 2 km along the riverbanks, surrounded by a lush primeval forest of fir, Japanese hemlock, and katsura trees. A unique feature of the area is the 'Jusanmagari' (Thirteen Curves), a series of winding hairpin turns that create a spectacular view of the undulating terrain. Whether you visit during the fresh greenery of spring or the brilliant colors of autumn, the valley offers a constantly changing and captivating natural spectacle.

This is the most popular time for photographers and nature lovers. Early summer is also a wonderful time to witness the vibrant, life-filled greenery. For the best experience, visit during daylight hours to clearly see the movement of the river and the details of the waterfalls from the observation decks.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks through the natural paths or experience a sense of adventure by crossing the high-altitude suspension bridge. The view from the bridge offers a thrilling perspective of the vast valley below. Kyusui Valley is surrounded by several famous landmarks in Oita and beyond. Ryumon Falls, known for its impressive water flow, is just a 10-minute drive away. If you travel about 42 minutes toward Beppu City, you can experience the famous 'Beppu Hell Tour' (Beppu Jigoku Meguri) to explore unique volcanic hot springs. Additionally, the area is accessible to the spectacular views of Mount Aso's Daikanbo lookout in Kumamoto Prefecture, making it easy to plan a comprehensive tour of the natural wonders of Kyushu.
As this is a natural canyon area, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. While many paths are well-maintained, the terrain can be uneven.
