Kurosaki Church is a Catholic church located in Kamikurosaki-cho, Nagasaki City. This site has a profound historical background, having been developed during the Meiji era by the French missionary Father de Rotz as a center for industrial promotion and social welfare. The sanctuary was constructed using bricks laid one by one by the faithful, featuring a single-story structure topped with a traditional Japanese tiled roof. Inside, the expansive rib-vaulted ceiling and the light filtering through the exquisite stained glass create a unique, mystical atmosphere. From the church grounds, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Sumonada Sea.
This region holds a significant history of preserving the Christian faith during eras when the religion was prohibited in Japan. The site was developed under the guidance of Father de Rotz, and the current sanctuary was completed in 1920. Furthermore, the area is famously known as a setting for Shusaku Endo's masterpiece novel, 'Silence'. This literary connection adds a layer of depth to the site, serving as an important landmark that conveys the journey of faith in this region. The accompanying bell tower stands as a symbol of the devotion of the local community throughout history.

The viewing hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We highly recommend visiting during the bright daylight hours, as the sunlight passing through the stained glass makes the colors appear most vivid and brilliant. Because the church faces the sea, the changing colors of the water depending on the weather and time of day also offer a beautiful, shifting scenery.
