Komuroyama Park is a comprehensive park spreading across the summit and the northwestern foothills of Mount Komuro in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. To reach the 321m summit, visitors can enjoy a scenic ride on the sightseeing lift. From the top, a magnificent 360-degree panorama unfolds: Mount Fuji to the north, the Sagami T ocean to the east, the Izu Islands to the south, and the Amagi mountain range to the west. Alongside this rich natural landscape, the park features modern facilities such as the renovated 'Komuroyama Ridge Walk MISORA' and a summit cafe, making it a perfect spot to experience both nature and contemporary comfort simultaneously.
The 'Komuroyama Sightseeing Lift,' the primary way to access the summit, opened in 1962. The history of the dining facilities at the base is also long-standing; what began as the 'Komuro Komuroyama Rest House' in 1966 has been revitalized and now operates as 'kitchen・218.' For many years, it has been a beloved scenic spot in the Izu area. In 2021, the park evolved further with the opening of the 'Komuroyama Ridge Walk MISORA,' allowing visitors to enjoy a more modern and sophisticated way to experience the landscape.
Komuroyama Park offers diverse areas combining nature and leisure. The lift ride to the summit is a core experience, providing breathtaking views during transit. Near the summit, the 'Komuroyama Ridge Walk MISORA'—a boardwalk designed to follow the natural terrain—allows visitors to walk through the scenery in all directions. For families, the 'Dinosaur Plaza' is a hit, featuring 13 dinosaur monuments and large play equipment. Additionally, visitors can relax at 'Cafe・321,' enjoying beverages while gazing out at the expansive horizon.
The park's beauty changes with the seasons. From late February to early March, the 'Camellia Garden' attracts visitors with 4,000 blooming camellias. From late April to early May, the 'Azalea Garden' becomes the main attraction, featuring 100,000 blossoms across 40 species. During this time, the 'Azalea Tunnel' creates a stunning corridor of color. For the clearest views of Mount Fuji and the Sagami T ocean, it is recommended to visit during the morning or late afternoon when the air is clearest.
Taking the lift is an experience in itself, offering a slow, steady ascent suitable for seniors and those with pets. Once at the top, you can stroll along the ridge walk, rest at the cafe, or let children play at the Dinosaur Plaza. The park also serves as a local hub for physical activity, with facilities such as baseball fields, tennis courts, and gateball courts available for use amidst the natural surroundings.
Komuroyama Park is surrounded by several key Izu sightseeing spots. The Jogasaki Coast offers dramatic cliffside views, while nearby Mount Omuro provides another iconic panoramic experience. Other nearby attractions include the natural beauty of Lake Isshi and the cultural heritage of Ito Onsen's Tokai-kan, all of which are easily accessible by car or bus, making Komuroyama Park a perfect addition to an Izu Peninsula itinerary.
As the summit is at a higher altitude, it can feel cooler than the ground level; please bring a light jacket or seasonal clothing. For the lift, please be mindful of personal belongings for safety. Payment for the lift requires cash (JPY). While some facilities may accept credit cards, it is best to check at the cafe or restaurant. To protect the environment, please take your trash home and respect the local flora. While basic signage is available, English support varies by facility.
