Komako Beach is a beautiful coastal area located in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This beach has been officially selected as one of the '100 Best Beaches in Japan,' a testament to its natural beauty. Its geographical location near the mouth of the Tedori River provides a unique landscape. A significant feature of this beach is the presence of offshore sea walls, which act as a natural breakwater to keep the waves relatively calm and gentle. This makes the environment exceptionally safe and suitable for swimming and water activities. Among the various seaside destinations in Ishikawa Prefecture, Komako Beach is particularly well-known for being one of the most accessible beaches from a railway station.
The name of the beach is said to be inspired by its resemblance to 'Maiko no Hama' in Hyogo Prefecture. The surrounding area is part of the Hakusan-Tedori River Geopark, an area dedicated to preserving and showcasing unique geological and natural environments. For generations, this coastline has been cherished by the local community as a vital part of the regional natural landscape.
The greatest appeal of Komako Beach lies in its pristine sandy shores and the gentle, soothing waves. Because the waves are significantly dampened by the sea walls, visitors can enjoy swimming and playing in the water with greater peace of mind. The beach facilities are operated on a limited seasonal basis, typically from mid-July to August 15th. To make the most of your visit, we recommend arriving during the daytime (between 10:00 and 17:00) to enjoy the sun and the refreshing sea water. Please note that during the off-season, the beach facilities and seasonal services are not operational.
During the summer operational period, swimming is the primary activity. Beyond just swimming, the area is perfect for various leisure activities on the sand. The surrounding area also features facilities such as campsites and open recreational spaces, making it a versatile destination for outdoor enthusiasts. In the past, the beach has also hosted various seasonal events, making it a vibrant spot for summer activities.
The area around the beach offers more than just a seaside view. The Komako Campground is located nearby, allowing visitors to stay immersed in nature for a longer period. Additionally, local cultural spots like the Kuretake Bunko are within walking distance, providing a blend of coastal relaxation and local cultural exploration.
To enjoy the water, please bring swimwear, sandals, and towels. While there are facilities such as changing rooms and showers (which may require a small fee), it is important to be prepared. As this is a public natural space, please be mindful of local etiquette: always take your trash home with you and respect the environment. Please be aware that facilities may not be available outside the official summer operating period.
