Takino Suzuran Hillside Park is the only national government park in Hokkaido, located in Minami-ku, Sapporo. Situated approximately 20km from central Sapporo, it is easily accessible and offers a vast expanse of beautiful nature. The park is characterized by two distinct seasons: the 'Green Season' centered around summer and the 'White Season' centered around winter, allowing visitors to experience completely different charms depending on when they visit. It is a magnificent space where nature, recreation, and cultural experiences blend seamlessly.
The park was developed to protect the natural environment while providing a space for recreation and community connection. Designed to harmonize with Hokkaido's rich natural landscape, the Country Garden features a pastoral scenery themed around 'Life with Flowers and Greenery,' reflecting the gentle, rustic lifestyle of the north. Beyond being a simple park, it serves as an important venue for learning about coexistence with nature and observing the changing seasons.

The park is divided into four major zones (Stream Zone, Central Zone, Takino Forest Zone [East Area], and Takino Forest Zone [West Area]), each offering unique experiences. For instance, in the Country Garden, you can witness tens of thousands of crocuses and tulips from spring to early summer, followed by the blooming of the symbolic lily-of-the-valley in June. The Stream Zone allows you to enjoy playing in the river while listening to the soothing sounds of nature. Additionally, the park is well-equipped with stay-based facilities such as campsites, auto-resorts, and BBQ areas.
The park's appearance changes dramatically with the seasons. In spring (late April to May), you can enjoy the awakening of nature with blooming tulips, daffodils, and crocuses. June brings the fragrant lily-of-the-valley and a refreshing early summer breeze. Summer is the perfect time for active outdoor pursuits like water play, BBQ, and camping. In winter, the 'White Season' offers the chance to enjoy recreation amidst a stunning snowy landscape. We also recommend checking the seasonal event schedule, as night-time events like stargazing sessions are sometimes held.

A variety of physical activities are available to help you connect with nature. You can enjoy playground equipment, obstacle courses, and water play areas, or explore the vast grounds by renting a bicycle. For a deeper experience, consider staying overnight at a campsite or auto-resort, or enjoying fishing and BBQ. The park also hosts special programs such as Nordic walking tours and stargazing sessions to deepen your understanding of the natural environment.
Near Takino Suzuran Hillside Park, you will find other recreational facilities like the Sapporo Art Park and Sapporo Fureai-no-Mori. Visiting these areas together allows for a rich, full-day sightseeing and leisure experience in the southern Sapporo area. This entire region is an ideal destination for travelers looking to escape the daily grind and refresh their spirits.

Because the park is extremely large and some areas may be unpaved or sloped, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please prepare clothing suitable for the season (such as a change of clothes for water play in summer or warm gear in winter). If you plan to use the camping or BBQ facilities, please check the necessary equipment in advance. While payments vary by facility, credit cards and transportation IC cards are generally accepted. Please respect the natural environment by following park rules and taking your trash home with you.
