After a period of closure following the Great East Japan Earthquake, the beach officially reopened in 2019 as part of the region's revitalization. The area experienced a temporary suspension of its beach functions due to the impact of the earthquake and tsunami. However, through the dedicated reconstruction efforts of the local community, it has been reborn as a premier destination for ocean-based recreation. This area reflects a culture of living in harmony with the rich seas of Kesennuma, serving as a vital hub for seasonal marine activities and community recovery.
The defining feature of Koizumi Beach is its unique topography. The main beach season runs from June to August. Swimming is officially permitted between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, during which time lifeguards are on duty to ensure safety. Mornings tend to be the calmest and most peaceful time for a dip, while afternoons can bring intense sunlight, making sun protection and hydration essential. For enthusiasts of surfing and other water sports, the best times may vary depending on the seasonal wave patterns and local conditions.

When visiting, please bring swimwear, a change of clothes, a towel, sunscreen, and sandals. For safety, please adhere to the swimming hours of 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM when lifeguards are present. Please note that cash is required for purchases at local stalls or temporary shops. While basic facilities are available, English language support is limited, so it is recommended to prepare in advance. Parking is available in both paved and unpaved areas, with dedicated spaces provided for large-sized buses.
