Kodo Beach is a scenic coastal destination located in Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Its most distinctive feature is its location near the mouth of the Kodo River, where the river flows into the sea. This creates a diverse natural environment where rocky shores and riverine landscapes coexist. During the peak summer season, the beach is monitored by professional lifeguards to ensure visitor safety. Furthermore, the water quality at this location is highly rated, having received the 'AA' grade in the Shizuoka Prefecture Beach Water Quality Survey, one of the highest standards for cleanliness.
The area has a long history of coexistence with the Kodo River. Because it sits at the boundary between the river flow and the ocean, it has formed a unique topography where the riverbed environment and the coastal environment merge. The area is recognized as a significant site for preserving natural biodiversity, with rocky areas and river sections that serve as habitats for various rare flora and fauna.
At Kodo Beach, visitors can enjoy much more than just swimming. The unique terrain allows for diverse nature-based activities. Since it is a point where the river meets the sea, it is an excellent environment for rock pool exploration, as well as river and sea fishing. The area is also perfect for nature observation, offering a chance to witness the local ecosystem and wildlife in their natural habitat. During the summer swimming season, the natural rock formations also become a popular subject for observation and photography.
The beach is open exclusively during the summer season, typically from mid-July to late August. During this period, lifeguards are stationed on duty from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM to ensure a safe environment for swimmers. To enjoy your leisure activities safely, we recommend visiting within the official swimming period (approximately July 13th to August 25th). The parking lot is available for use from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

It is an ideal spot for those interested in nature observation near a river mouth. Adjacent to this area is the famous Toi Beach, known for its long, bow-shaped sandy shoreline. Toi Beach is one of the largest in West Izu and is characterized by its shallow waters and calm waves. The area around the Kodo River offers beautiful, lush landscapes, and the location is conveniently situated near various local sightseeing facilities and accommodation options.
When participating in swimming, fishing, or rock pool exploration, please bring footwear that can handle wet surfaces and rocky terrain to ensure safety. While changing rooms and water showers are available on-site, please prepare your own clothing and personal items accordingly. Please note that parking is a paid service during the summer (1,000 JPY per car), so we recommend bringing cash. To protect this beautiful natural environment, please follow local etiquette, such as taking all your trash home with you.
