Kobe Sumiyoshi Zoo is located within Oji Park in Nada Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. This facility is highly distinguished by its ability to host both giant pandas and koalas, a rare combination for a single zoo. The grounds are designed for more than just animal viewing; they include an Animal Science Museum, an amusement park, restaurants, and souvenir shops, allowing visitors to enjoy a comprehensive day of leisure and education.
Situated in the heart of Oji Park, the zoo has long been a beloved center for local culture and recreation in Kobe. The site also features historical architectural elements, such as the 'Old Hunter's Residence,' which adds a layer of historical depth to the experience. It is not just a place to see animals, but a site where local history and modern leisure coexist.

The zoo is divided into several key areas: Animal Exhibition, the Animal Science Museum, the Amusement Park, Restaurants/Shops, and the Old Hunter's Residence. The panda and koala exhibits are the primary attractions that draw crowds from all over. Additionally, the amusement park area features a Ferris wheel, offering a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape. The Animal Science Museum provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to engage with scientific knowledge regarding various animal species.
While the zoo offers beautiful scenery throughout the year, the activity levels of the animals and the atmosphere of the park change with the seasons. We recommend visiting during the bright daylight hours to see the animals at their most active and to fully enjoy the amusement park rides. The on-site restaurants and shops are also perfect for taking a break during your visit.

Beyond observing animals, visitors can enjoy various rides at the amusement park. The Ferris wheel is a particular highlight, providing a scenic view of the Kobe cityscape from above. Please note that to use the rides, you will need to purchase specific tickets at the amusement park's ticket machines.
The zoo is integrated into Oji Park, which offers plenty of space for walking and relaxing. This integration allows visitors to enjoy the zoo as part of a larger, peaceful park experience, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing day out in nature.

To ensure a pleasant visit, please follow the established rules. Feeding animals or any form of harassment toward them is strictly prohibited. Pets (such as dogs and cats) are not allowed inside. Bringing in toys or balls is also prohibited. The entire zoo area is a non-smoking area, and the consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden. Please respect these rules to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all visitors.
