Kobayashi Bokujo is a specialized training facility for Ohi Racecourse, located in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture. Established in 1965, it serves as a professional center for the rearing and training of racehorses. Unlike typical tourist farms that focus on animal interaction or horseback riding, this is a dedicated, disciplined environment for high-level equine development. However, its most famous feature is the spectacular 700-meter-long cherry blossom tunnel that surrounds the area. During the spring season, this landscape becomes a major attraction for photographers and nature lovers alike. Spanning approximately 513,354 m², the facility offers a unique coexistence of professional horse racing culture and serene natural beauty.
Operating as a vital training center for Ohi Racecourse, the facility is currently under the management of Tokyo Keiba Co., Ltd. While it has deep roots in the local community—once serving as a site for local school camps—it is now strictly managed as a professional training site. The facility is equipped with 11 stable buildings (totaling 268 units), practice tracks, dirt courses, and uphill training tracks, representing a crucial piece of Japan's modern horse racing infrastructure.
The most breathtaking sight is the 700-meter stretch of cherry blossoms featuring approximately 300 trees. You can enjoy various varieties such as Somei Yoshino, Yama-zakura (wild cherry), Yaezakura (double-flowered cherry), and Shidarezakura (weeping cherry), each offering a different charm depending on the timing. In the spring, the area is illuminated at night, creating a magical, dreamlike atmosphere. Visitors may also catch glimpses of horses in the pastures or the specialized racing buses, providing a rare look into the professional world of Japanese horse racing.
The peak season is from March to April during the cherry blossom bloom. During this time, the area is lively with daytime strolls, night-time illuminations, and various food stalls. While the area can be quite busy until around 20:30 during the night-time illumination events, the atmosphere is truly special. In early summer, you can also enjoy the sight of horses grazing in the pastures, offering a different kind of natural beauty.
Please note that this is a professional training facility, not a leisure farm; therefore, activities like animal petting or horseback riding are not provided. The primary purpose of visiting is to enjoy the scenic walks along the cherry blossom paths and the seasonal atmosphere. During the spring peak, the presence of food stalls adds a sense of local festivity to your visit.
