Kita Kogane Shell Mound is a settlement site from the Jomon period located in Date City, Hokkaido. This site represents a settlement from the early to middle Jomon period. Excavations have revealed not only shell mounds but also ritual sites near water sources, pit dwellings, and burial sites. The facility also occasionally hosts special exhibitions and educational lectures in the lobby.
The facility is open from April 1st to November 30th each year and is closed during the winter season (December 1st to March 31st). It is best to visit during the spring to autumn months when the weather is mild. Visiting in the early morning is recommended, as the quiet environment allows for a more contemplative and peaceful observation of the exhibits.
Guided tours and educational programs are available for those wishing to learn more deeply. These programs require advanced-booking; specifically, a detailed application must be sent via FAX at least two weeks in advance.
