Kishiwada Kankan Bayside Mall is a commercial complex developed as part of the Kishiwada Port redevelopment project in Kishiwada City, Osaka. The facility is divided into two distinct areas: "WEST" and "EAST," each offering a unique experience. The WEST building is characterized by its striking Western-style architectural design and houses a cinema, various restaurants, and sports facilities. In contrast, the EAST building focuses on daily necessities, featuring supermarkets and clothing stores, making it ideal for both leisure and routine shopping. The name "Kankan" is derived from local culture, referencing the "Kankan-ba" (the peak of excitement) during the famous Kishiwada Danjiri Festival, as well as the historical "Kankan-bakari" (scales used to weigh cargo).
The facility was born from the redevelopment of Kishiwada Port. The EAST building opened in 1997 as "Kishiwada Kankan," followed by the WEST building in 1999 as "Kishiwada Kankan Bayside Mall." Through various name changes and renovations, it has evolved into its current form. In 2018, the WEST building underwent a significant renewal to introduce specialized sports facilities. The area itself holds deep historical roots as a place where cargo was once weighed at the port.
In the WEST building, visitors can enjoy high-quality films at the 9-screen United Cinemas or engage in active leisure at the climbing wall and skateboard park. Near the waterfront, you will find the "Ocean Circus," a circular plaza that offers a refreshing atmosphere. From the seaside promenade, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Hanshin Expressway Route 4 Wangan Line's Kishiwada Bridge. The EAST building is perfect for practical shopping, with the supermarket Lopia serving as a central hub alongside various fashion and lifestyle stores. The distinctive Western-style architecture of the WEST building is so unique that it is even used as a filming location for media.
The facility generally operates from 10:00 to 20:00. During the daytime, the seaside promenade is ideal for a relaxing stroll in the fresh air. On weekends, the circular plaza near the sea sometimes hosts special events known as "Ocean Circus." For those looking to unwind in the evening, the cinema and various dining options provide an excellent way to spend your night. Whether you are visiting for a quick shopping trip or a full day of leisure, the indoor facilities ensure comfort in any season.
The WEST building offers cutting-edge entertainment, such as a cinema experience where seats can vibrate in sync with the action on screen. For active visitors, the skateboard park and climbing facilities provide a dynamic way to stay engaged. The location's proximity to the sea also allows for a unique way to spend time—simply relaxing while gazing at the ocean waves. It is a place where modern entertainment meets natural beauty.
The complex is adjacent to the Kishiwada City Namikiri Hall to the south, allowing visitors to combine a shopping trip with cultural events. To the north of the WEST building lies the wedding venue "Rivage Blanc." The surrounding area is deeply connected to the sea, allowing visitors to feel the maritime culture of Kishiwada.
