Kiroshan Observatory Park is a scenic park located at an altitude of 301.1 meters on the southern tip of Oshima Island in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. Situated within the Seto Inland Sea National Park, it is one of the most iconic sightseeing spots in the region, offering spectacular views of the Shimanami Kaido. The highlight is the 'Panorama Observatory Bridge,' designed by the world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma. This structure is designed to harmonize with nature, allowing visitors to enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the dynamic currents of the Kurushima Strait and the beautiful chain of islands below. The area is steeped in legend. It is said that about 1,300 years ago, a traveling monk encountered a giant turtle carrying a golden Kannon statue in a sea cave. A temple was subsequently built on the mountain to honor the Kannon statue, giving the name 'Kiroshan' (meaning 'Turtle Old Mountain'). Historically, this region has been a vital point for maritime transport, where humans and nature have coexisted for centuries.
