Kinmi Shrine is an ancient sanctuary located in the Okusenbon area of Mount Yoshino in Nara Prefecture. It enshrines Kanayamahiko-no-kami, the guardian deity of Mount Kinmi (the area encompassing Mount Kinmi and Mount Omine). For centuries, this deity has been revered as the protector of this land. Since the medieval period, the site has been known as an important training ground for Shugendo (asceticism), making it a sacred space with a unique spiritual heritage. The current worship hall is a relocated structure from the former Yoshino Shrine, and its architecture carries a profound sense of historical weight.
The shrine has a long-standing history of honoring Kanayamahiko-no-kami. This region has long attracted practitioners and devotees due to its role as a site for Shugendo ascetic training. The architectural history is also notable, as the current worship hall was moved from the former Yoshino Shrine. Furthermore, the site is deeply connected to Japanese warrior legends, most notably the legend of Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
